| A couple of years ago my transmission to a crap. I chalked it up to sloppy driving skills and high rwhp and purchased a brand new 97 plus spec tranny from Nissan. Well for the past month, I have noticed a wine in the tranny that exists when in neutral that has been getting progressively louder. When I push in the clutch, sounds goes away. There is no noise in the transmission while shiifting, no issues with gears or synchros at all either. Replaced the pivot bearing ( I think that is the one by the oil pan and flywheel ) when I put a new clutch in the car 3-4 months ago. From talking with a few people, it sounds like my input shaft bearing or the countershaft bearing may need to be replaced. I have not drag raced this tranny, speed shifted, missed any shifts, or grinded any gears. I have "babied it" so to speak with dyno pulls and occassional street pulls. I wonder if the Z tranny will wear the bearings faster than normal when heavily modded. My plans to avoid a total tranny failure is to take the input shaft bearing and countershaft bearing ( and maybe the rear input shaft and rear countershaft bearings ) and get them cryo treated. I understand that this cost is pretty cheap and will make the bearings more durable. The center input shaft and center countershaft bearings (I am hoping) should be ok since they are normally pretty well lubricated. If this is so, it should save me $$$ on the labor expense. Anyway, I am glad that I looked at this while the tranny was down to fix my annoying SGP oil leak ( issue resolved ). I am not sure what is going on here or if it is user error as well. Figured I'd share. There are a lot of Z's doing major build and this maybe the newest weak link. And I used MT90 for tranny fluid.
